I seek a leadership position in our Club because I deeply share our core values of protecting the planet. I will effectively represent us in settings not always open to our message - in minority and disadvantaged communities, in Congress, and in leading the defeat of President Bush. It's vital that America's premier environmental organization have strong, diverse activist experiences represented on the Board.
My past environmental service has focused on environmental justice and sustainability. In 1987 my church drew attention to unfair environmental impacts on minority communities before others, including the Club, got involved. I strongly support expanding and protecting wilderness. Air and water pollution laws must be strictly enforced and polluting industries held accountable. Protecting wildlife, especially endangered species, is critical. Once lost, they are gone forever. Rapid population growth exacerbates all these problems and must be addressed.
Our collective commons is being sold to the highest bidder under a national religion that worships free market fortunes over saving our common resources of clean air, clear water, protected wilderness and fiscal and population sustainability. I will help lead the Board and staff to fight better and smarter for the environmental goals we cherish.
"Frank will be a major asset to the Board. He is a person of integrity and has always fought for the values of the Club. It happens that he's African American which brings the potential to help the Club's outreach to the nation's minority communities. But most important is his intelligence, humor and skilled diplomacy which makes him remarkably capable."
--Huey Johnson, former Resources Secretary, State of California
